Ascension Alexian Brothers Medical Center has served Elk Grove Village for generations. But now, the hospital plans to shut down its entire maternity ward—cutting off local access to labor and delivery care for every pregnant person in the area.
This means all baby deliveries would be moved to a different hospital in Hoffman Estates, despite Elk Grove seeing an increase in younger families who need those services now more than ever.
A maternity ward is not just a hospital department. It's the heart of a community hospital—a place where families begin. Removing it forces expecting parents to travel farther, take greater risks, and lose access to the care they’ve counted on for decades.
This comes after a string of service cuts, including pediatric and radiology departments. Elk Grove families deserve better—not a slow dismantling of their hospital.
Local nurses are protesting. The mayor and village board are fighting back. But they need support from the community to stop this plan before it’s too late.
Sign this petition to show state regulators and Ascension leadership that Elk Grove families are watching—and we will not accept the loss of this critical care without a fight.
By the requirements of the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Act, notice is given of the receipt of an application for exemption for the discontinuation of the 28-bed obstetric category of service at Alexian Brothers Medical Center, 800 Biesterfield Road, Elk Grove Village, Illinois (#E-008-25).
